Texans Urged to Speak Up to Protect the Heartland Flyer
The Northern Flyer Alliance, Inc. is calling on Texas radio and television stations to help inform viewers about a critical issue affecting transportation in our state. The Heartland Flyer — a vital passenger rail service connecting communities in Texas and Oklahoma — is at risk of being defunded by the Texas Legislature.
We urge your station to help spread the word: Texans must contact their local legislators, as well as Senator Robert Nichols and Representative Armando Walle, who are serving on the House and Senate budget conference committee, to demand full funding for the Heartland Flyer.

The proposed removal of $7,056,238 from Article 11 of SB1 threatens the continued operation of this successful and essential transportation option for the next two years or perhaps for good. The Heartland Flyer provides not just a convenient mode of travel, but also economic and environmental benefits to the entire region. Every dollar spent returns $5 in economic benefit. What business wouldn’t love a 5:1 return?!
With such obvious benefits, what were they thinking?
We are asking all Texans to take action by telling their legislators and legislative leadership:➡ Fully fund the Heartland Flyer➡ Restore the full $7,056,238 in Article 11, SB1➡ Support reliable, affordable passenger rail for our communities.
